The Pathway to knowing the Plagiarism Spectrum

Hello, Good Day everyone. Thank you for tuning in for today's blog entry. Today's entry we will be talking about The Plagiarism Spectrum which in other words are the 10 types of plagiarism. Without further ado let's start.

Now as we all know Plagiarism is a form of theft wherein it involves content or ideas which are from other sources utilized onto another material by a different user. People commonly do this since it makes their tasks convenient even if it makes their work unsubstantial. By learning the Plagiarism Spectrum, we could identify which sources or ideas are reliable. The Plagiarism Spectrum contains 10 different variations that people commonly commit when doing their research or other academic related tasks. The types of plagiarism are Cloning, CTRL + C, Find - Replace, Remix, Recycle, Hybrid, Mashup, 404 Error, Aggregator, and Re-Tweet. These types of plagiarism will be contextualized and defined on the next paragraphs.

Cloning refers to a type of plagiarism based on its root word cloning, wherein the entire work of a certain author is copied. Ctrl + C is where only a certain portion of the work is copied without citation of the work. Find - Replace refers to a plagiarism wherein keywords and common phrases are replaced but the other ideas are unaltered and remain the same. Remix which if broken down means to mix again, it is a type of plagiarism wherein different ideas from other sources are paraphrased and put into one work. Recycle is where the user or author reuses or repurposes previously owned and submitted work into a different context without acknowledgement or proper citation of the previous work.

For the sixth variation of plagiarism, we have Hybrid, wherein portions of the text are copied similar to CTRL + C method yet what sets it differently from it is that Hybrid is a mix between cited and not cited idea or text. Next, we have Mashup, wherein there is a citation that involves multiple ideas from different works or sources. Then we have the 404 Error, wherein there is a citation that may not exist or may be inaccurate and not aligned with the source of information. Aggregator is where information is properly cited yet there are no signs of originality or paraphrased idea based on the source. Lastly we have Re-Tweet where there is still an inclusion of proper citation yet it closely relies to the original source, its a common thing in this method where in words are altered or exchanged for their synonymous counterpart or are lengthened or explained in phrases.

In Conclusion, Plagiarism is a crime that can be easily committed by anyone especially if you are an expert or have some sort of knowledge in using the internet as your leverage. For me, we should be learning about the Plagiarism Spectrum, because with this knowledge we could identify and measure if the source of information is authentic, dependable, and trustworthy. Trust is a vital aspect which we humans need to maintain in order to have a good and proper communication or relation. We should be exercising ourselves to do what is right despite our shortcomings, in order for us to maintain our trustworthiness within our community and each other.

Topic Sentence and Thesis Statement: A Comparison Between the Two Worlds

Good Day Everyone, thank you for dropping by for today's blog. For today's entry we will be focusing on the difference between Topic Sentence and Thesis Statement. Prepare your minds as you will be learning and comprehend about this very significant topic.

As what you have read on the title above a Topic Sentence has unique properties the same applies for Thesis Statement. A topic sentence is usually placed at the beginning of a paragraph to provide a summary of the idea or point discussed in that specific paragraph. It acts as a guide, for the reader helping them navigate through the paragraphs content. On the hand, a thesis statement is typically found at the end of an introduction, in an essay or research paper. It serves as the argument or main point of the work outlining its overall purpose and scope while giving readers an idea of what to expect. While topic sentences are focused on paragraphs, thesis statements. Guide the entire paper by providing direction and purpose.

To put it in simpler terms, a topic sentence functions, as a summary, at the beginning of a paragraph providing an overview of its content. Conversely a thesis statement serves as the idea of the essay and is typically found and positioned at the end of the introduction offering insight into the overall subject matter of the paper. In essence topic sentences pertain to paragraphs whereas thesis statements encompass the entirety of an essay. With this new profound insight, I hope that you will be able to use this knowledge for your own benefit throughout the challenges you go through in life.

I hope you stick around for the next blog entry. Until then, farewell!

Week 2 Journal: The Framework and Concepts of Academic Texts

Hello Everyone, Welcome back to my blog! For today's blog I will be talking about my learnings and some insights on the topic of Academic Texts. If you were not able to read my last blog entry, to make it brief Academic Texts are Texts created by Individuals or Professionals of certain disciplines with a purpose of teaching students or those with scholastic relation. As for today's entry we will be tackling more on what the structures and factors that are evidently observed in Academic Texts. Now let's get on with it!

In Academic Texts, there are presently four main techniques used. First if all it should be created with formal theme or words as it sets the professional tone of the text, given this circumstance casual talk is not allowed. Secondly, it should be impersonal meaning it shouldn't revolve around your feelings or any personal opinion. Third, all data should be accurate  and concise therefore proofs are evident. Lastly, these texts are to be made objective, avoid being biased.

Now on with the structures, there are nine main structures of academic texts namely, definition, description, Recount of Sequence, Cause and Effect, Comparison and Contrast, Enumeration, Problem and Solution, Classification and Thesis Evidence. Definition means how a certain term or word should be defined. Description is how a text is to be described. The Recount of Sequence is to organize the ideas in narration, Cause and Effect is pretty much self explanatory it explains the cause or what makes a certain phenomenon happen and its effect or what happens after it occurs. Comparison and Contrast means how an idea is compared to another, and finding the difference between the two or more ideas. Enumeration is when you make a list of numbers or enumerate ideas chronologically on a list. Problem and Solution talks about the problem and the various solutions on how to solve or get through such problems. Classification is how you categorize ideas or just arrange them in groups according to a certain category that they all have in common. Lastly, The Thesis Evidence are the ideas that clarify the theory in simple words these are the evidences that should support the theory.

Those different structures of Academic Texts are important as to how the different organ systems are important to our bodies as living human beings. Without us ever having the knowledge of these different structures, it is given that we wouldn't be making any progress in our tasks of creating Academic Texts. Keeping knowledge of these different structures is like a way of respecting the different professionals that have worked their ways to teach us essential knowledge that they have found, they bestow upon us the responsibility of how we should adapt and be more innovative with this aspect as it is truly beneficial to the progression of our lives as human beings.

I hope you have learned a lot from this week's journal entry, be sure to stick around for the next one. Until next time, see you all!

Week 1 Journal: The Bewildering World of Academic and Non-Academic Text

Hello Everyone, thank you for stopping by my very first blog for this year. Today's blog features my perspective and learnings from the unique properties of both Academic and Non-Academic Text. I will try to be brief with sharing my insights about this particular topic. Now without further ado, let's get on with the topic.

Academic Text is a type of text where professionals from each field create text only for the sole purpose of educating or teaching students or of those related to an academia or some sort. Academic Texts are written in a formal tone or way as it is objective and its topics tend to be somewhat complex in a way that mostly professionals only deal with these types of text. Examples of academic texts are Essays, Thesis Papers, Articles, Text Books, and many more. Academic Texts sometimes include citations from other researches as it is usually made to be factual hence it is evidence based. The formality in the way of expressing ideas to the readers really educates and encourages them to want to know how to make a better and more proficient academic texts than those that have already exist.

Non-Academic Text on the other hand, is a type of text wherein it is made to be targeted on a mass or public audience. It is usually made in an informal way involving personal emotions or opinions and prejudices, impressionistic themed, and mostly subjective. Non-Academic Texts are usually structured with simple words as it caters with anyone in the public regardless of age and other differences. Examples of Non-Academic Texts are Newspapers, E-mails, Journals, Text Messages, Memoir, and the list goes on.

Overall, Academic Texts are Objective, Formal, and are purposely made for educational purposes. While, Non-Academic is Subjective, Informal, and are created with a purpose to communicate to the mass public. Academic and Non-Academic Texts are two unique ways on how to express or relay ideas and messages to different people. Whether you are an averagely literate person or a highly literate one, both texts are created for a purpose to communicate and teach other people knowledge that others posses. We need to know the difference and uniqueness between these two, so that we may be able to relay on how or what these texts are purposely made for.

Thank you so much for giving your time for reading my blog for this week til the very end. I hope that you would consider sticking around for the next ones. Until next time, Goodbye!
